The foundation ‘Friends of the Khong District’ wants to make a difference for the people of the Khong District in Laos.

We are active in the Khong District, the most southern province of Laos. Laos is one of the poorest countries in the world. The government only pays the salaries of the teachers and health workers. The villages must provide their own basic facilities, such as pumps for clean drinking water, school buildings, class furniture and books. We help them with a modest amount of money and organizational support.

Our foremost goal is to show people how they can improve their living circumstances themselves. 

The next 5 years we want to achieve that:

• All villages have access to a basic health care facility;

• All kids can go to school, every class has a classroom and every student has a book. 

We want to achieve this by teaching the people of Laos to take their own initiatives, to set up their own health care facility, to organise better education and (in the long run) to start their own companies. The people will be assisted by qualified volunteers from the country itself. There is a good co-operation with the organisations in Laos, so we will not be flying in expensive experts to Laos.
