Our organization exclusively works with volunteers, who are active in Laos, Belgium and the Netherlands. We only do small-scale projects. We are now focusing on the Khong District, the area where one of our founders, Thongsian Phongsavath, was born.
In Laos we can count on a strong local committee which is the intermediary between the locals and the organization in the Netherlands. It helps starting up new activities and guides our projects.
We have supported the construction of a hospital, ten schools, over a hundred toilets, five water pumps, and we helped starting up the first village library. The first steps have been taken to help the locals increase their income through ecotourism.
Many new initiatives are the result of Dutch volunteers visiting Laos and starting up projects in a friendly and spontaneous way, together with the locals.
In the Netherlands volunteers are taking care of PR, fundraising and project management. Students of a few Dutch colleges often do targeted research and give their advice about how we can improve our organization.
Why don't you join us?
There is a lot of work to do, in the Netherlands as well as in Laos. Check out our webpage about becoming a volunteer to find out what you can do to empower more Laotian people to improve the quality of their lives. We welcome all kinds of proposals.
Our organization is expanding quickly. Therefore the website is in the process of being restyled. That means that at this moment it might be challenging to find the specific information you are looking for.
Maybe this can help you get started:
Our English website is not yet so extended as the Dutch one. Sorry for that. If you have any questions contact then our co-founder and chairman: Adrie de Koning: adrie@helplaos.nl
Maybe you can try to use a translating site to translate the Dutch pages? We hope before the summer our English website will be improved! We are still looking for translators from Dutch into English!
