The goals of the foundation Friends of the Khong District are:

- For the locals to develop skills, so that they are able to make decisions and be responsible for the improvement of their lives. 

- To improve the main health care, to build medical facilities and basic health care centers. 

- To help provide better education by building better school buildings, by providing school material and furnishings and by training teachers. 

- To provide a community with clean drinking water to achieve better health conditions by building toilet facilities for schools and homes. 

- To promote sustainability by offering methods to achieve a basic income, so that families can provide in their own needs. 

Although the authorities pay for the teacher’s salaries, the people need to provide school buildings, materials and books on their own. This leads to tremendous situations where students are being taught in a local dump or a temple.
