Our unique points

1. Help is really needed

The government of Laos has hardly any money to build schools, clinics and water pumps for the people. The inhabitants have to organise by themselves to make things happen even though they just live from their rice paddy harvest and some fishing activities.
They want a better life but don’t know where to start.

2. Our fundraising is transparent and personal.

We don’t speculate with your money, we spend it as quickly as possible in places where it is really necessary. Visit our website www.helplaos.nl.  Read our regular news, donate and choose how your donation will be spent. Donors with donations from € 750, - will be kept informed personally.

3.We help people of Khong District improve their lives by themselves
.

The inhabitants understand that they need to initiate development by themselves. They need to act first and then they can ask our help. We will help and guide them in carrying out their projects and provide partial financial support as needed.

4. Much has been achieved.

The people of Khong District have already seen that our joint approach with the inhabitants, the authorities, and our committee works and produces excellent results. The people have already built many schools and toilets.  They’ve also constructed their own water pump. They are very proud of their achievements.

5. We work only with volunteers, our overheads are very low.

We have no office and we don’t own project cars to drive around. We pay no salaries.  All enthusiastic and skilled volunteers in the Netherlands and Laos support a part of our organization.

6. In Laos, your Euro is worth a tenner(€10)

We keep costs at a low level. Villagers do as much as possible by themselves. Example: For only $ 2000 to $ 4000, - they can build a 1 classroom or repair a 3-classroom school! Volunteers from home and abroad contribute to set up small projects like tooth brushing project, English summer camp, sports activities and conduct English conversation activities with our on-going English Class.

7. Collaboration keeps costs low and makes the work sustainable.

Everything is done in close cooperation with our management, the local committee, the district authorities and the villages. All volunteers get in touch with each other on a regular basis.  This is how we learn from each other and discover new things together.

8. People learn from each other and pass it on.

The local people learn doing new things together. We encourage and coach them to share their knowledge and experiences with each other. This extends our work by itself.

9. We help the community get stronger.

As the inhabitants increasingly face new challenges together, they learn to cope up with the rapid changes in their daily life. They work hand in hand and make better decisions for their future benefit.

10. Our help is sustainable.

In case we would pull back unexpectedly, our projects will still continue! We provided
good guidance and training to our KDC and the villagers as we go through each projects. This ensures that the people will take care and maintain their projects properly. The experiences and skills learned during the course of our development endeavour will be applied continually by the people.
